THE RANGE
At ITTA, you can access a one-of-a-kind shooting space designed for the unique demands of tactical firearms training. Our range offers fifteen yards shooting distance, width for nine students, no fixed firing line, lighting controls, a no-ricochet rubber granule backstop, instructor designed custom targets and a state-of-the-art HEPA air filtration system.
WHAT IS A TACTICAL RANGE?
A tactical range allows for full movement within the space, and the ability to place targets in any position that is still protected by the back stop. There are no fixed shooting lines or target retrieval systems found in a typical range.
For introductory and beginner classes a temporary surface is set up to give students a space to safely place a firearm down. For intermediate and advanced classes, holster draw certification is required, and part of our training, and long guns require slings.
THE DIFFERENCE
ITTA’s main focus is education. Your time with us is geared toward learning and perfecting your shooting techniques. Membership at a typical shooting range only allows you to shoot from a designated firing line, within your stall, at a single static target without guidance. This kind of practice develops incorrect shooting habits and does not allow you to understand why you may be shooting inaccurately or missing your target. But when you train with us, you will be led by a qualified instructor, guided through meaningful exercises and tactics, all while understanding the foundations of proper shooting. You can then advance to higher level techniques involving holster draw, movement shooting, and so on.
Instructor led training also provides a high degree of control over gun type, calibre and technique, which allows us to enforce the level of safety required in our range. All shooting done at ITTA is instructor led and class based. You cannot shoot alone at our facility. Unlike other ranges, ITTA provides ammunition for our classes, along with firearm use in the event you do not have the appropriate one already.
BACKSTOP
Our backstop contains over twenty thousand pounds of rubber granules which creates a four to five foot thick bullet trap. The rubber encapsulates fired rounds keeping the bullets intact so there is no lead exposure. With a rubber berm, you can shoot right at the 1-yard line without the danger of ricochet. During maintenance, we sift the rubber to separate the lead for recycling making our backstop friendly to the environment.
HEPA AIR SYSTEM
Heath and safety for our clients is our number one priority at ITTA, starting with our air system. Designed to circulate air cleaner than the fresh air outside, a 3-stage HEPA filter grabs all harmful particulates and recirculates 70% of the scrubbed air back into the system. The 30% exhausted air is also run through the HEPA filters to eliminate environmental pollution. The massive air volume of the system creates a low speed wind tunnel within the range. The entire air space of the range is circulated every 60 seconds. All the gasses are constantly pulled away from the firing line allowing you to breathe clean air from any position within the range. You will never smell gun powder in our range, so you can be sure you are breathing clean air.
